About us
Quirkiness runs like a red thread through the story of Down to Art. We have always made our plans intuitively and executed with great confidence on our gut feeling.
In 2021 and 2022, we chose Nieuwpoort as a hotspot for 2 new galleries. The fact that these galleries turn out to be an instant success can be seen as proof that this idiosyncrasy is intact.
The selection of the artists is done in the same way. Big names don't interest us unless they make beautiful work, because that's the only thing that truly touches us and which we are convinced that it also affects the audience: beauty, story and craft.
The artists of Down to Art have one thing in common: they do not bury their heads in the sand, they do not float on artistic clouds and they do not consider themselves exalted at all. They try all the more to be 'people among the people' and simply do their work with integrity. They have all, in their own way, opted for a figurative path, or a path in which abstract elements clearly add value to the present figuration. They are all professionals who have built up a technically strong and emotionally experienced artistic identity through a solid education and/or years of experience.
Down to Art's clientele is extremely varied and ranges from young people who are just starting to expand their lives and art collection, to seasoned collectors. However, all these people have one thing in common: they don't like 'bla-bla'. At Down to Art you as a customer should not come for an expensive explanation why you MUST buy a work of art. We are convinced that you just have to FEEL why you WANT a work of art. We dare to say that we have never 'sold' a work of art, but that it is the people who simply buy it themselves.
Naturally, we are often asked whether works of art are a 'good investment'. And while some of our artists have seen the value of their works double or even triple every 10 years, we always say the best investment is the one you make with your heart. Don't hang anything on your wall if it doesn't touch you, no matter how much it's worth or who made it.
Strengthened by its fourth gallery in Knokke, Down to Art is determined to help many thousands of people on their way to something beautiful, strong and lasting for at least another 20 years. And for the investors: (emotionally) valuable!
