The book, as a recurring motif, no longer consists of paper and ink: it is the root of a tree, the wall of a house or the depths of a forest of pigments. Sàbat suggests to us, painting after painting, that contemplation is the only place where we can still be both castaways and hosts at the same time.

In works such as El ABC de los colores or El árbol de la vida, we see that legacy of graphic design which Jordi masters so precisely, yet filtered through a patina of pictorial serenity. The formal synthesis of his compositions allows the viewer to fill in the gaps with their own memories. There is no noise in these canvases; there is an invitation to a quiet dialogue between form and colour, between the order of the drawing and the freedom of the canvas.

His paintings are windows onto worlds where the only language required is that of wonder. Jordi Sàbat takes the book as his starting point in order to transcend it; he offers us a poetic vision of all that inspires us, and demonstrates that, just as in the finest visual poetry, the deepest meaning is always that which shimmers through the boundaries of colour.
