Work...

Pere Sala, is a Catalan sculptor who combines the classical tradition of the human figure with a contemporary and poetic visual language. In his bronze sculptures, he explores movement, balance and the vulnerability of the human body. His dancing, bathing and balancing figures seem to break free from gravity and inhabit a world suspended between reality and dream. Through his refined modelling, distinctive patinas and the interplay of bronze with geometric or transparent elements, Sala creates works in which strength, beauty, playfulness and tranquillity come together.

About Pere Sala

Sala was first introduced to art through drawing and painting lessons with Joan Solà. During his studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona, he discovered sculpture and immersed himself in modelling and the study of the human body. After completing his education, he explored a range of techniques and materials, including synthetic materials used, among other purposes, in the production of mannequins. This experience deepened his knowledge of anatomy, form and three-dimensional construction.

Since around 2004, bronze has been the principal material in his oeuvre. The medium enables him to capture both the delicacy of the human body and the power of movement in an enduring form. His mastery of modelling, bronze casting, finishing and patination places his work within the great European sculptural tradition of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. At the same time, Sala avoids a purely academic representation: his figures move, dance, balance, swim and play, or appear momentarily to break free from reality.
